This week we have had an array of solar panels installed. They will soon be connected to the main grid with the idea being that we can generate and sell electricity to the grid during the day, and then in the evening buy it back. They seem to be a pretty good investment and we based on our usage we expect a return on 50% per annum. Our house is north facing and the main array is on this aspect, I was worried about affecting the street presence, but I also like the idea of wearing our green hearts out front.
The inverter and control panel is a hefty beast that sits right outside our front door, I would have preferred for this to go downstairs and be out of sight. I think we need to build a cover or cabinet for the system, fitting in with the style of the house. The good thing about the control panel being so handy is that we can see the amount of electricity we are generating. Mark loves to measure and record things, especially if they are cost-saving, so this week has has been coming home and opening the power meter box and watching the meter spinning backwards.
