Mark and I bought our first home a few months ago in the suburb of Bulimba. It is a small inter-war Queenslander dating from the 20’s in the Ashgrovian style. It is in really good condition and had a major revovation done in the 90’s. The house is filled with heritage features including a small front porch, VJ walls and ceilings, dado and picture rails, breezeways, frosted windows with amber and magenta glass panels, and wide oak floors.
I am keen to look more into the history of the house (inspired by the tales of Zola on Fun and VJ’s), I heard from the neighbour that the house was moved onto the site from next door when the parcel was sub-divided. This was done in the 90’s and the house is now raised on large steel beams and has had a deep modern deck added to the back, where I am sitting as I type which serves as our outdoor kitchen, dining and living room; overlooking the treetops of the garden.
There is a lot to be done though. The kitchen is slightly dated and needs a refresh, the bathroom also could be freshened up. We also plan to enclose the lower back part of the house where there is a large laundry and have the master bedroom with an ensuite and walk in robe (the house is only 400m from the river, but is flood-safe and perched up on a hill).
The graden is private and filled with mature fruit trees, we are planning an organic vegie patch, herb garden, compost heaps and a small chicken coop, and a second greyhound to give Mischa some companionship.
It looks stunning – hopefully I will getg to see it next month 🙂
